  1. I had a friend in high school from Buffalo, and he didn't have that sort of accent.  That's just one person though =).

  2. No, they don't. Buffalo is upstate, some 350 miles + from NY City.

  3. NO, not at all.

we have more of a Canadian accent than anything

    Buffalo resident

  4. Buffalo is at the other end of the state from NYC and in many ways at the other end of the world.  People I've spoken to there sound more midwestern than new york-like.

  5. The three people I met from Buffalo did not have the same accent as the 8 people I know from Queens.  There really wasn't an accent with the people in Buffalo but then again I am from Maine and some people have very distinct accents and others have none.

  6. They don't have accents like those of people from NJ/Long Island/Bronx, etc., but people in Western NY do have somewhat of an accent.  For example, "sale" sounds like "sell".

  7. Its not even remotely close.

The Buffalo area and the New York City area are different regions and different worlds.

People in Buffalo sound more similar to people living in Canada or Minnesota than people in New York.

THIS is a New York City-region accent:

Buffalo People sound closer to people in Rochester

Also, the people on the Sopranos dont have Jersey accents. Tony has a Brooklyn accent, whereas Carmella and the kids have long island accents.

  8. Not even close.

  9. Some people. Buffalo is pretty far from the city so the accent isn't the same. Not all people in New York have an accent.

  10. no..upstate NYers have a different type of accent..nothing like the sopranos

  11. Well, I know in NYC they have an accent.

  12. Many do.  But The Sopranos waas really not about a "family" in New Jersey - (not NY).  It was really about a real-life mob family in Kenosha, Wisconsin.  Real "family" members - even in jail - were interviewed regularly for upcoming story lines.

True story.  Kenosha is the hub of organized crime in the midwest.
