Do people in Cozumel........

Question

do people in Cozumel speak Mexican or will they be able to speak American too. i am going there and i did not know if i need to know any spanish words?

I have great news for you:  Nearly everyone in Cozumel & Cancun for that metter, speak English.  Spanish is also spoken, but everyonne knows english.  It's a great fun place to go.  Check out Mr. Sancho's Beach if you get the chance.  It's awesome!

People who live and work in Cozumel primarily speak Spanish, although most people who meet tourists also speak English, some more fluently than others.  You do not need to speak Spanish, but knowing and using some very simple phrases will be very well received and much appreciated.  "Hello", "Please", and "Thank You" should be used in Spanish whenever possible!  The people of Cozumel are friendly, polite, helpful, and appreciate being treated the same.
