  1. it depends how much americans hate lawyers, but they are not always appreciated in France...

  2. Apart from one or two who made a carrier of defending the monsters, lawyers are not that hated in France. It might come from the  fact that they can't ask a share of the money their client earn, and French law does not allow for the sometimes ridiculous suing that seems common in the US. So no lawyers waiting outside hospitals to convince the patients that they were badly treated (I know this is an extreme case, but it's just to make a point). They don't have the reputation of being sharks like the American lawyers have.

  3. French people often dislike lawyers, but I would not say they generally "hate" them. People simply don't understand two things:

    1. Why can a lawyer defend a criminal? (Benefiting from a Defence is a main principle of our Justice system!)

    2. Why would a lawyer want to sue people when they are innocent? (Well, if they are innocent, the Court will confirm it anyway, won't it?...)

    I hope this helps.

  4. A lawyer in France is not comparable to a lawyer here and the answer is No.

But things are changing there and there could come a time when French lawyers are as hated as ours.
