  1. I used to live in Peru and people from the middle and upper classes have dogs, turtles, fish, hamsters, cats, and birds as pets. Now people who live in the country side have horses, chickens, rabbits, and so on...

  2. Hi Louise; people in Latin America as just as normal as any other people in the world. Dont expect that because they live in that part of the world their pets will be anacondas or macaws or sloths. The universal pet is the dog and in countries I've visited and lived (like Chile, Argentina, Peru, Uruguay, Brazil, Ecuador) people have dogs, cats, canaries, gold fish, hamsters, etc in places like the cities and then in rural areas they keep farm animals just as any other person in the world.

  3. I used to live in Honduras and I would tell you that just like Americans we kept: dogs, cats, and some parrots. I have also seen people keep lizards. Some people of course have aquariums or little ponds and keep fishes and turtles. I dont know if they are considered as pets.

  4. Mostly dogs, they are very useful as guard dogs also to keep theifs and such from entering you're house. Here, In Nicaragua almost everyone keeps dogs and birds, i have 2 parrots and a toucan, my toucan has a rainbow beak and is beautiful, my parrot is what we call a "chocoyero", it is small and mostly green, my other parrot is almost rainbow colored, mostly red though. I also have fish, tropical fish that would cost more than someones house in the U.S. I went to the Corn Islands (a Nicaraguan island off the Caribbean coast) and you can scuba dive. I have friends who loaned me their equipment and i went to go get some fishies. On the country side, animals such as pigs, horses, cattle, ect are kept and raised, but they are mainly to feed the owners or to sell.

Cats are a rarity here. I have never seen (in my life) anyone keeping a Cat as a pet, in the U.S. a lot of them do.

  5. Just as Adyari says, they do keep dogs to guard their things. By the way Adyari, why does Viva El Salvador say you are fake?
