  1. no it sounds nothing like scottish, its welsh, look up on youtube for a person with a welsh accent or something, they even have their own language but its not used by many people i dont think, however it does have roadsigns in welsh and police cars say heddlu which is welsh for police as well as saying police.

  2. There are several different Welsh accents as well.  Welsh accents don't really sound Scottish at all, they're very lilting and melodic accents.  Scottish accents are a bit more earthy.

Wales, being part of Britain, but not part of England, means that Welsh accents are British accents, but there are MANY British accents, and the term "British accent" itself is almost too broad to be useful.   The correct term would be "Welsh accent."

In England, people have different sorts of English accents, depending on where they live and their social class.  In Scotland, people have different sorts of Scottish accents, again, depending on where they live and their class.  Scottish accents are also officially "British" accents since Scotland is part of Britain.

Ireland is NOT part of Britain, and Irish accents are not British accents.  I suppose you could call an Irish accent a "British Isles accent," but I wouldn't do so standing very close to an Irishman.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Wales has a whole host of different accents (as does England and Scotland) but it can be (very generally) split into two main accents - Gog and hwntw (Gog being part of the Welsh word for "North", Hwntw being the South Walian Welsh word for "The over there").

While technically both are "British accents"because Wales is in the british isles, they wouldcommonly be kown as Welsh accents. The hwntw accent is the one most outsiders link to Wales (more specifically the South Wales valleys accent) but the Gog Accent (especially in those from the North West) is just as distinctive.

Towns within 7 miles of each other will have massively different accents - a good example is Caernarfon and Bangor in the north. (The reason for it there is that Caernarfon is predominantly Welsh speaking and therefore the tone of the Welsh language influence the accent even when speaking English)

There is no such thing as a standard "British Accent". Even in England thre are countlss different accents. The stereotype English Accent as perfected by Hugh Grant in every film he's ever made is spoken in just the South West of England.

  4. Logic dictates that people in wales have a welsh accent, not a British accent and certainly not a scottish accent.

  5. they have their own welsh accent

    just like most countries

  6. There is no such thing as a 'British accent'.  The UK is made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and not only do they have their own accents, but within those regions there are many different accents.  For example, a London accent is very different to one from Liverpool, despite the fact that both cities are in England.

The 'stereotypical' British accent that most foreigners refer to is actually a south east England accent and so, unsurprisingly, the people in Wales do not have this accent.  A Welsh accent is much different.  If you want to hear a Welsh accent try searching for some Welsh celebrities on you tube (e.g. Charlotte Church or Catherine Zeta Jones before she decided to speak with that silly American accent of hers) and you'll be able to hear what it sounds like.

  7. No, they're more likely to have a Welsh accent...I don't actually think there is such a thing as a British accent, because there are so many different accents across Britain - someone from Northern Scotland is going to sound very different to someone from Northern England who in turn will sound very different to someone from Southern England or Wales for that matter...

  8. Another faux pas, of course, northern irish are british but they too have severall different accents.

Nice try Sorcha MacSidhe but you got it wrong!
