  1. Regarding  usage,  over and over or every time new time to time?

Everybody has their own house chopsticks. They wash and clean 'em as same as knife and fork after dishes  every time and use'em again and again until they want to change. Most of chopsticks are not plastics but wooden lacquer coated ones in Japan.

Plastic chopsticks are too slippery to catch meal than wooden ones.

On easy going opportunity like outside party or playground, taking bento or lunch box, they may use disposable wooden chopsticks.

Miso Soup would be eaten with chopsticks for picking contents and they drink directly from soup bowl to mouth. You have to use both hands without chopsticks for pick up and hold the bowl to drink without sound as manner in Japan. You may pick up some contents by chopsticks during holding the bowl by one hand palm bottomed and its thumb guarded together though.

Only soba noodles you may sound to eat after dipping into soba sauce exceptionally.

If you have hesitation, you may ask spoon like Chinese or Korean do.

That is one of different Japanese manner from Chinese or Korean.

Spoon for regular Japanese food is only for small child.

Meat is pre-cut on dishes before eat for Japanese food. If you want to cut it much smaller, you just bite away in your mouth.

  2. Most Japanese have their own personal pair of chop sticks. Some are made of painted wood. Other materials are used.

They eat soup by holding the bowl up to their mouth and drinking it.

  3.   They  use  their  chop sticks  at  home  like  we  use  our  fork  and  spoon  they  wash  it  after  and  dry  and  not  all  wooden, they  have  a  special  spoon  for  soups  just  like the  ones   in  a  restaurant, they  serve  their  meat  bite  size  already  so  they  don't  have  to  cut.

NOW  in     Restaurants,.......it  is  always  new  .

  4. Nope, unless they're using the cheap disposable ones that are meant to be thrown away.

Actually, in Japan, usually each family member kind of has their own special pair of chopsticks that they always use; though they may use others, they probably have some that feel like "mine".

American-style soup is eaten with a spoon, Japanese-style soups are eaten with chopsticks (you use the chopsticks to pick out the solid pieces and drink the broth from the bowl like a cup), pasta (like Italian spaghetti) is eaten with a fork, and meat in Japan is hardly ever in the form that you see it in America- there are no big steaks to be cut, or chicken b*****s . . . all the meat is cut into small pieces to be easily picked up with your chopsticks.  If you do go to a place where they serve meat that needs to be cut, you'll probably be given a fork and knife.

Good luck learning to use the chopsticks!  It really is very easy once you get the hang of it.

  5. well i'm in the U.S but I bought my own pair.I reuse them when I eat sometimes.

You can use a spoon to eat soup but usually they drink the broth like you would a drink and then eat the contents of the soup with the chopsticks.

It's very tricky to cut meat when you eat with chopsticks.Read up on the etiquette of using chopsticks for that. It's hard to describe

  6. >how do you eat soup?

We use spoon when Western style soup is served.  Japanese soup is miso soup.

For miso soup, we use the following plate.

    http://www.isuke.co.jp/japan_ware/wan/in...

We bring this to our mouth with left hand and directly sips miso soup.

    >and how do you cut meat?

We use knife. But in many cases, meat is cut before it's put on table.

  7. no they get good bamboo or plastic ones and wash them just like spoons or forks! they have spoons too, or they just suck up their soup if they want, and they cut meat with a knife its not like they use chopsticks for everything!

  8. yeah, they only use one.

  9. No, they don't. They use them and wash them, just like we do w silverware. I used to tutor 3 girls that are sisters, and one night when I was at their house one girl told me she was miffed at her sister--reason, sister "A" had used sister "B's" favorite Disneyland chopsticks at dinner. So obviously some people (kids) have their favorites that they use every day.

In Japan people usually drink soup and eat whatever solid things are in the soup w chopsticks. There are exceptions though--stew or pudding would be eaten w a spoon. In China they use a Chinese style spoon that you've probably seen in restaurants. You can buy those spoons in Japan too.

You cut meat w a knife and a fork. Western food is eaten w western utensils, Japanese food is eaten w chopsticks. If the meat is in a Japanese style dish, the meat will be precut into the appropriate size for chopsticks.
