Do people in other countries think of Americans as being very religious? I was not raised with any religion and I have always viewed religion as the most obviously made-up bunch of nonsense (you know, the way religious people view every other religion besides their own). But as I got older, I came to realize that most of the people in my society actually believe in religion and go to church. And I came to learn in school that America was actually founded by extremely religious people. And apparently, I’ve come to understand, America is considered a very religious country overall. I actually get seriously embarrassed (and kind of offended, honestly) any time I get the idea that someone thinks I have any religious beliefs. So if people in other countries think that Americans are all religious, then that… basically sucks, from my point of view. Is that really how we are seen?

  1. religion is part of an individual belief! all countries have different religions its all up to the individual!

  2. well, if it's compared to Europe, no.  We're not viewed as the most religious, but with some.  We come here for freedom-which we don't have much of anymore- but I don't think we're seen as being too religious with the whole homosexual agenda thing, and equal opportunity employers. etc

  3. Quite frankly the opposite. Many people of other countries view American irreverence as encroaching on their own cultures. The truth is though that many Americans proclaim they are religious. The sad truth is many of those many use Jesus like an extra tatoo or bumper sticker but not acknowledge Him as their Lord and Savior.

  4. Personally, I think USA are more open about their beliefs making them appear more religious whereas here in the UK we seem to be more reserved and guarded. Either way good luck believers and non believers one and all !  :)

  5. Yes, a lot of them do. I live in France, so I have regular contact with French people and other Europeans. Many of them are surprised to find that I'm not super-religious like the Americans they see on television (e.g., our politicians, athletes and tornado victims).

  6. Yes.  They also will probably think that you're fat and arrogant, and ignorant of their country.  Learn a little about their country.  Most that know you're American will deem you dumb of their country.  State some simple facts about their country to them and they'll be shocked that you know anything.  Easy to impress others when they already think that you're stupid.
