I was just wondering what accents people from the UK prefer from Americans. What is your favorite accent in America?

  1. I'm from Minnesota and sound like/get made fun of how I sound all the time. I also just spent 4 months living in London.

Most people didn't recognize that I had the midwestern/Minnesotan accent but they did like my American accent and usually tried to sound like me.  A few people were able to tell right away I was from the midwest but they said they liked how I spoke.

  2. I like the accent - the only American accent I don't like is like those in films like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, etc. It's made me think that they are all incestuous, backwards and killers!

  3. I like most American accents except a Southern drawl, I don't believe I've heard a Midwest accent.

  4. like most people in the UK, I haven't a clue about the different american accents ... OK there are a couple I can't stand, one is very drawling and long drawn-out and sounds like a cat being murdered very very slowly, and the other is loud and strident and makes me think of someone running a cheese grater across my back

but as to where these accents are from I have no idea ... and also no idea as to what a midwest accent would sound like

can you really know what place our accents are from?  could you tell a scouser from a geordie, or welsh from irish or scottish?  unless you've been over here a lot I would very much doubt it

  5. Most people believe that the midwest accents are similar to the canadians.

  6. the new york accent is good but i dont think english people could tell many american accents!!

  7. Any spoken American English that is not at volume 11 is good for me. I wouldn't know a midwest accent if it drove over me in a Hummer.
