Question:

Do people in the US build their houses with concrete? I'm asking because I've never seen one before?

It's also because I've never been around the US so I obviously can't see every house. Have you seen one or do you have one?

  1. Love your question.

They have been using ICF construction in Europe for many years with great success.I will say there has been great opposition to ICF here, perhaps lack of understanding.

I will say as a former concrete pump operator I have pumped many ICF homes.Once people realize the overall savings (oil) they may see otherwise.

  2. My house is made of tin or aluminum(mobile home). Some people build with brick, some with wood, most all houses that actually have basements have concrete to make the basement, but I don't know about the WHOLE house. It'd be kinda' expensive!

  3. I saw an excellent presentation on one of the usual TV channels. HGTV, I think.  Yes, there are concrete homes being built.  I took the name of the construction company and developer of the process; but, I lost all the information from about one year ago.  It is real and available and not that complicated.  It is a big plus in hurricane alley country.  But, the benefits make it worthy consideration for anyone considering a new home.   I had an interest to expand my dwelling via a concrete room.  Just lost enthusiasm because all of the contractors were negative on the idea.  I live a rust belt state and the contractors are mostly 3 guys in a pickup truck who have a license to be called a contrator but little else.

  4. yes.  the foundation is concrete, the walls made of wood,  the outside of the house has brick.
