  1. here's an answer from someone in Zimbabwe. People still trade using money, in whatever form.

    - If you are ok buying in USD, or South African Rands everyone accepts (though of course not officially!).

    - You can even buy goods or services using fuel coupons which are exchangeable for forex as well.

    - If you have Zimbabwe dollars, everyone is happy to sell you stuff, as long as you bring cash! If its not cash, the price goes up, there's whats called a transfer rate and a cash rate. Bank transfer is way more expensive than cash, way way more.

-Cheques, debit cards and credit cards have their place as well esp. in hotels and certain supermarkets

  2. generally people will barter and use other country's currencies.  When Ecuador had a hyperinflation problem people started using U.S. dollars.

  3. Che is correct that Ecuador uses American dollars. So does Panama and a few other countries. However, with the Mugabe regime i doubt this will become official policy. Mostly when money becomes worthless people will barter or use other countries currency if that currency is more stable.
