I would like to get the word out to all the people who think That New Orleans got hit by a Hurricane...NOT! Mississippi got Katrina full force, New Orleans was flooded by a levee break after the storm had passed that was caused by incompetent city and state officials that cared nothing about repairing the levee's. If you feel the same way please answer!

  1. That's right, Biloxi and Gulfport were practically destroyed in this storm.

  2. Katrina was the worst natural disaster to ever strike the USA and it is unfortunate that the world thinks only New Orleans was affected.  The world has heard of New Orleans while cities like Gulfport and Biloxi are far less known.  Also, while the visible damage in MS was much worse the size of the population affected in MS was less than 10% of New Orleans. Additionally, the news media is leftist and is more concerned with majority-Democrat New Orleans than with majority-Republican Mississippi. All of those factors are why the news media tends to focus on New Orleans and forget about MS. I am sorry about all of that, but it's just reality.

You are correct that the eye (which was 30 miles across) of Hurricane Katrina did not pass over the city of New Orleans.  However, the storm was as large as the entire Gulf of Mexico and it is wrong to claim NOLA was not hit by Katrina.  Note that the winds in downtown New Orleans were at speeds up to 130mph, which was within 20mph of the top wind speeds on the MS coast.  Suburban areas of New Orleans suffered winds of 150mph. The storm surge that hit southeast LA was at least as high as the surge that hit Mississippi.

Your claim the levees failed in New Orleans because of incompetence by state and local officials is also wrong.  The levees were insufficiently designed and built by the US Army Corps of Engineers, which is a federal agency.  Maintenance failures (if there were any) did not contribute to the failures that caused the city-proper to flood - the cause was poor design.

  3. I know. We were destroyed by FEDERAL government failure(no, not 'Bush' or anything like that) Barry is right, it was the Army Corp of Engineers. As far as the pre and post katrina handling, all government had their share in it, not just local, not just state, not just federal. Any person that is fully knowledgable , or at least partially on Katrina knows this. But yes, Ms.,Slidell and St. Bernard Parish would have been destroyed regardless. Orleans could have been spared.

  4. George Bush doesn't care about black people.

  5. yes.  we know.
