  1. As in most types of classified jobs the people closest to you or in your circle of working associates know you are involved in something. They may not necessarily know exactly what though. Typically an operator will have a low key answer to explain their profession.

  2. A story floated around after the Blackhawk Down incident October of 1993.  One of the Delta Snipers that posthumously won the Medal of Honor, wife had heard he was an Operator and that he worked on phones.

How could you keep it a secert from your family?

  3. Yes the family knows. All your friends are Delta.

  4. We thougth this guy from our churhc was in delta, he did not have the military haircut and he was in the military and not a civilian.

  5. The answer is yes, but their occupation is not readily shared with those who are not family members or very close friends.

Delta, or Operational Detachment D, members are a very close knit group who develop extremely close relationships with their Teammates. As a result, they are often visiting each other and are around for many events, including military reunions.

They will never discuss the details of their assignments or deployments with anyone other than their Unit members.

Delta has many members who previously served in other military branches and units, for instance, Navy SEALs. The members are familiar with the "Silent Professional" commitment to serving and take the role very seriously.

Members may also be deliberately put out of touch with family and friends prior to a deployment to ensure Operational Security and protect Classified Intelligence.

Members are also Debriefed after a Mission and there are strict guidelines and rules that protect any information that has been gathered. I have never heard of a member violating the policies.

  6. Yes

  7. Yes family members know.  My husband is w/10th SFG(A)--he went through Delta Selection, and a lot of what people say about it isn't exactly true. Some people think if you watch a Chuck Norris movie, than you're qualified to speak on it.

When my husband went through selection (we were dating at the time),I knew exactly what he was doing and where he was.  He even wrote me letters. He wasn't 'sought out' or recruited.  He was no one special--not SF, not a Ranger,  Just a mapmaker.

It is true, that if you see a guy who is w/Delta on the street you would never know.  They are allowed to wear civilian clothing, and have long hair and grow beards.

There are also people who are not SF qualified, but who do support Black Ops at Ft. Bragg.  These are enlisted guys who support the missions, mostly in intelligence (HUMINT, GEOINT, IMINT, etc) similar to how  the GSB, GSC, and GSSC does SF.

I never know where my husband is when he deploys, so I am quite sure that family members do not know logistics of missions.  But they ABSOLUTELY know what they do.

The Delta section at Ft. Bragg is way in the back woods, but if you drive through to get to Pinehurst/Southern Pines, you can see it from the road.

  8. They know they're Delta. They can't really talk about it in detail.
