I've been wondering what language is taught there at lebanese schools since my lebanese classmates don't speak much english and claim to have had french lessons at school.

Is it common to know french? and do you speak french with your family or friends and everyone? cuz I've heard people speak french and almost all lebanese people are bilingual if not trilingual. is this true?!!

I'm really curious about lebanon and lebanese people in general !

Thanks in advance

  1. hmm well It's more common to have french as a second language in public schools, cuz I remember where I used to like the public school was had only french second language.  Now it's a parent's choice to either put them in french or english...my parents put me in english (a private school) and had a french class..

When we say english its not just learning english, math was in english and I am not sure I think science was as well so.

Lebanese people are nice but snoby !!!

Lebanon its has a political problem some terorists Known as .... etc

its a christian country with muslim and jews and druz involved !!

Its a triple language country !!

    Also dimocratic

  3. yes it's either French or English or both ...

i didnt' study French in School but i know it from hearing it daily everywhere around me ...

these days kids study German, Italian or Spanish as a 3rd - 4th language as well ...

  4. Public schools start with Arabic and French from grade 1  and only few of them have English as second language instead of Fench(most students there are the ones born in Australia or USA).In private schools they start with Arabic and French(language,math,science..all in French) and in grade 5 or 6 they add English as the 3rd language.

Some private schools also add a 4th language in grade 10(Italian school in Tripoli/North).

Nearly every1 in Lebanon knows French even illiterate people knows the simple words and use them(thank you, goodbye).

I went to a private school and in French classes we were not allowed to speak Arabic (we could not even speak to the principal in Arabic). It's a shame that now after living in Austalia for 15 years i can barely remember the language.

  5. Sometimes as a first....

In my case for example; French is my maternal language, then i learned English (which is my current first language)...and then I learned Arabic (which I'm still learning actually ;-)

Now days, its a given to have all 3....plus Italian or German as a 4th or 5th
