  1. It's noticeable that the environment is cleaner today than it was years ago.

Pollution control is a multi billion dollar business in the USA.  More countries should follow our example.

  2. People noticed the dead fish from the pollution in the Great Lakes and the clean water act was born. Fish came back. People change when made to. Indonesia is the third largest CO2 producer and has burned off big patches of land to grow Palm Trees for palm oil being used as biodiesel. Canada is destroying their wet lands to get tarsands. People notice but no changes have been made. EU is working to ban palm oil as fuel additive.

Today here is what we know:  many of mankind’s advancements cause earth surface to warm, destroy the ozone layer, kill off endanger species, heat cities, and in some way cause more destruction.  Blacktop (roads and parking lots), buildings, air pollution (causes lung and other diseases), deforestation, duststorms (which increase hurricanes and cyclones and cause lung diseases), fires (cause pollution, mud slides, and deforestation), refrigerants (like CFC's), solvents (including benzene destroy the ozone layer raising skin cancer rates) and plastics; cars, airplanes, ships and most electricity production (causes pollution including raised CO2 levels) are human problems we need to fix to keep life on earth sustainable!  The federal government needs to adopt a pollution surcharge to balance the field and advance new technologies. We must pay the real price of oil (petrochemicals) including global warming, cleanup and for health effects. But with that we must understand we have never seen what is now happening before. CO2 has never lead to temperature change, but temperature change has led to increases in CO2. The models have to be made as we go along with little evidence! The result is:  change is on the way, we just do not know what changes. But again adding a small amount of CO2 to the atmosphere enlarges the earths sun collection causing warming; increase water in the atmosphere and they form clouds cooling earth but causing flooding. Even natural events are warming earth and causing destruction. The sun has an increased magnetic field causing increases in earthquakes (more destruction), volcanoes (wow, great destruction), and sun spots. Lighting produces ozone near the surface (raising air pollution levels). But humans have destroyed half of the wetlands, cut down nearly half of the rain forest, and advance on the earths grasslands while advancing desertification which increases duststorms. The USA Mayor's have taken a stand and I believe are on the right track, we can have control and can have economic growth. With the peak of oil in the 1970’s, the peak of ocean fishing in the 1980’s, humans must stop procrastinating and make real changes to keep earth sustainable including in the energy debate, finance and regulation. The sun is available to produce energy, bring light to buildings and makes most of human’s fresh water. Composting is the answer to desertification. New dams are the answer to fresh water storage, energy and cooling earth by evaporation, we need many small one all over (California needs 100 by 2012 and has not even started).

President Bush has made a choice of energy (ethanol) over food and feeding the starving people around the world; this is a choice China has rejected.

  3. i notice pollution. however its no more or less than it was when i was born. it hasnt changed...

  4. Some don't conecern themselves with trivialities such as the future of life on our planet. Unfortunately, many of those who do have a "what difference can I make?" attitude. This is truly a great shame, as our world is ONLY EVER influenced by individuals and their decisions, even if that decision is just to follow the flock.

It is a shame that the envorinment is all too often prtrayed as unfriendly; the media is full of stories of "Mother Nature gone mad" and the like. This is certainly true here in Taiwan where I live; people seem to fear the weather, whatever is it like.

Your last point, what is environmentally friendly? Well, I could suggest building a nature pond in the garden, cycling or turning all your electronics off at the wall when not in use. However, ultimately, the only environmentally friendly activity for a modern human seems to be suicide!

  5. I think that people notice environment changes but unfortunately, they do not care about it. Most people are not concerned about our environmental problems. There are many natural fuels like biogas that is environment-friendly but the government has not raised enough money to support it.

  6. If the local environment is polluted people notice. Anyone can notice the smoke pouring out of a car that isn't running very well and anyone can see smog in the air, and anyone can smell exhaust if they are right behind a car. That is why in the years from about 1960 to 1980 so many technology improvements were made at a cost of billions to clean up this kind of air pollution, which is made up of unnecessary extra gasses that are only there because the engine does not burn the fuel perfectly. But now engines are burning the fuel nearly perfectly, producing only the pure combustion products of water and CO2. Both are greenhouse gasses, but rain effectively removes the water from the air quickly where the natural processes that remove CO2 have not kept up with all the engines in the world putting it into the air. The global warming gas CO2 is not a pollutant and has no effects that can be seen or felt. CO2 is a natural gas and without low levels of it in the air all life on Earth would die. The only concern is the levels are going up. They have gone up from 0.028% to 0.038% in the last 200 years. Careful record keeping says there is a change in Earth's climate that has occurred at the same time as the CO2 levels have risen. But you can't just notice it yourself because it is a very small effect. You have to be told by scientists who make it their life's work to measure and track such things. So most people are not going to just give up their car because some specialists are saying things they don't understand about a problem they cannot see.

  7. Very few people have that level of awareness. We have lots of educated zombies on this earth who are out to kill the few ones who are humans and aware of whats happening around.

People dont look and try to understand they just believe what their friends, media, govt. tells them.

  8. of course people notice it..but we cannot avoid using fuel cars because it is need in our life..,it can shorten time to go to another place..,but of course we have to save some place such as forest to keep fresh environment....^_^,good Q.

  9. yup and global warming is taking place but the dumb *** republicans deny it sooo w/e our gov. is going to kill us all any way
