I'm 30 and I will refer to anyone any age as Sir or Ma'am...even people my own age...and if the sales clerk at the store is being rude I will say something like "Ma'am, you are being rude or Sir,you are being rude" Is this not common in other places? Do other places see a Sir or Ma'am as an old person only? Here it's just a title of respect, even to someone getting on your nerves...

  1. I say it sometimes and i don't live in texas.

  2. everyone says sir and ma'am here. even if you re young they call you ma'am, sir. Except when i went to illinois no one said it. or in any other state I stopped in. To me it sounds very rude when they do not say that.

  3. i use it all the time and i have lived everywhere from washington, dc to mississippi to zimbabwe.
