  1. I don't see many stories in the news about people outrunning cops successfully but I do see many where a chase ends up with an accident sometimes with a fatality.

  2. Yes. That saying is 100% true. My father is a police officer and statistics in his officer show in the past year 16 car pursuits. One got away because they canceled the pursuit, but the guy was caught 3 days later. Then, 5 Motorcycle pursuits and none got away. A police radio is a great tool and most people don't reliaze that.

  3. People will try it all the time but they usually get caught. I'd have to say that about 95% of the time the cops will catch the vehicle. Motorcycles are tricky but most departments have special cars that are unmarked fast vehicles on the highway for that type of thing. If your in a big city like L.A., they'll have a chopper over you with a light and camera and you'll never get away

  4. Yes people outrun the cops for awhile.  Usually they are caught later either at home, when they wreck, or when they try it again.

Turns out radios are pretty useful.  The cops can just send your plate and vehicle info to the cops in the next city, county, state, etc.

  5. Most news (especially in US of A) have an unwritten rule that they will not report the news that makes cops look foolish. To answer your question, there are quite a lot of people who outrun the police, especially smarter individuals.

Unfortunately in today's society in most of the countries there is a wide-spread problem of snitching, and most people who get caught are caught due to that.

One interesting fact for you: In USSR there was a law disallowing cops from chasing a person who is on the motorcycles, that was because it was recognised that a person is innocent until proven guilty and has a very high chance of hurting oneself if being chased while riding on a 2-wheel vehicle.

  6. Very simple - we win, you lose.

We have radios, other officers, spike strips, cameras to record your license plate.

When you get into an accident and kill someone, its felony murder.

  7. Actually, the adage is: "You may outrun the motor, but you can't outrun the Motorola." There's always another officer somewhere down the road.

Yes, people can sometimes outrun a police vehicle. If the dangers of the pursuit outweigh the need to immediately stop the person, the pursuit may be terminated. (For example: chasing a speeding car through heavy traffic or through a school zone may be too risky for a simple speeding ticket.)

  8. I tried to outrun the cops once.  I was driving with no insurance and stumbled upon a "Road check"  The cop signaled me to pull over.  Stupidly I took off as I knew if I was caught they would impound the car and arrest me.  So needless to say I hit the gas wound up in traffic with the cop hot on my trail and eventually pulled into a parking lot. I had water in the car and poured it on my lap so it looked like I peed myself.  I waited and the cop found me, I began to cry that I did not know what he was following me for and he said that I ran a traffic stop, I told him I thought it was a car accident.

He noticed the wet spot and I began to cry.  He calmed me down told me to go home and change and to be more aware next time.

I got insurance the next day.

  9. No, you can't outrun them and will eventually get caught.

No, you can't outrun the radio. The Dispatchers will call into the next city, county, or state and notify law enforcement of your direction of travel and to have someone on standby to intercept you. Furthermore, Dispatch can put out a bulletin on NCIC with your vehicle information and send it across the entire country to have law enforcement look for you.
