Question:

Do people see me the way I see myself in the mirror?

When I look in the mirror, I like what I see. I think I am a relatively attractive guy. But when I'm out with friends and I get pictures taken of me, they look terrible! It looks like a completely different person than who I see when I look in the mirror. So, do people actually see me like this, or do they see the half decent looking guy I see in the mirror? Am I just not photogenic? Thanks in advance

  1. many times we are our worst enemy

  2. When we look in a mirror, our faces are reflected back as a MIRROR image.  So the right side is on the left and the left side is on the right.

But when we get a picture taken, it's the real image.  Many people don't like to get their pictures taken because they are so used to how they look in the mirror, so the picture doesn't look right to them.  Also, lighting is usually better around mirrors.

You probably look just fine, things just don't seem quite right in pictures and it's a little disorienting.  I hate most of the pictures I'm in too!

  3. i think that question can not be answered since you can not look through other peoples minds and eyes , nor can they know how you see yourself until they see you through your eyes and mind

  4. It could just be that in the mirror you're looking at a real-life 3 dimensional image, versus a two dimensional photograph. I've noticed that people I know sometimes look far worse in a photo than in real life.

  5. I've often wondered the same thing.

I think our perception of ourselves creates a huge bias when we look into a mirror. I'll look at myself and think, hmm, I'm not terrible looking, I've got a pretty good build going, my teeth look pretty white, all that. And in pictures, the exact opposite surfaces.

I think that we tend to look at specific features when we look in the mirror, and that we use different lightings than in the real world. For instance, you may look in the mirror while standing very close to it in a bathroom, which may have yellow-ish lighting or bright-white lighting. When you're that close, you have a different idea of how big your head is and how proportionate everything is, when in reality, the proportion may be a bit different than you realized.

It wouldn't surprise me if a lot of elderly people have no idea what they've ever really looked like.

  6. i think they see us better so you must be really hotttt like fire to them.
