Do people seem to prefer one or two story homes? What do you like personally?

I would prefer a one-story house- that way, I don't have to constantly run up and down stairs, or carry bedroom furniture upstairs. Also, it means less to clean once spring comes around- a big plus for me!

I prefer a two-story house with a basement. They're right, less carbon foot print.

However, the elderly and people with disabilities might prefer a one-story house.

Two story.  Put the kids in the bedrooms upstairs.  More house in less footprint,  less roof to replace.  The biggest drawback is putting up Christmas lights, but the 2 stories are worth it.

personally i like a two story house just because it's what i always imagined as part of "The Dream" along with the german shepard and the white picket fence.

I grew up in a two story house (plus a basement) so I've always like the two story houses. I always prefer to have a house with a basement no matter what so you have that extra living space as well as a place for storage and such. Plus why not have some stairs? It can be good exercise!

I thought two-story homes were cool, like you see in the East, but now I must admit I find one-story homes (ranch-style) much healthier!  We don't have to climb up stairs with heavy packages, the dogs don't pop a hip and all's cool.
