I live in England and am moving to the US soon. I have heard you guys only smoke straight cigarettes, not the ones you can roll from loose leave tobacco and rolling paper.

Am I right?

  1. yes

  2. As an American who smoked roll your own cigarettes a few times in the past, I can tell you:

    1.  Most Americans do not smoke them, and most of the ones who do smoke cheap cheap stuff - like Top Cigarette tobacco (which is like, two dollars for an ounce and a half of tobacco and 50 rolling papers), and only smoke it because the cannot afford straight ciggies.  Lots of homeless people smoke the,.

    2.  You will be able to find good rolling tobacco and papers at specialty tobacco shops (which are everywhere), even quite a few "local" (not-Starbucks) coffee shops carry an assortment of premium cigars, some good rolling tobacco, etc.

    3.  Smoking handrolled will be a good thing, because most silly Americans with our weird cig preferences will not bum your smokes!

and 4.  When you move here, and people ask you to bum a smoke, it has nothing to do with your rear end, or theirs.  Seriously though, do people in England ask if they can "Bum a smoke?"  That is the most commonly used phrase for it in the US.

  3. I have a friend who rolls his own (we call him "Roll Your Own Joe" - lol).  He can do them with one hand and really quickly! ... but, most people DO buy packs/cartons of regular cigarettes.  Smoke shops here do sell the tobacco and papers to roll your own though, as do the cigarette shops on-line

  4. Not many people smoke rolled cigarettes anymore but a few still do and you can buy loose tobacco and rolling papers at almost any convenience/corner store.  I used to smoke rolled cigarettes, then was able to afford the filtered kinds, so I gave them up.

  5. You can buy loose tabbaco, rolling papers, emtpy filtered cigarette tubes and machines to force the tabbaco into the tubes.

I smoked for about 2 years, I was up to about 2 packs a day. Now that I've  been clear for almost 3 and 1/2 years its a real good decision to quit.

  6. Very few people do roll their own, but the product is available in most stores.
