  1. I love opera. Its just like watching a now a day movie, but theres more emotion. Its a weird kinda feeling to describe

  2. Because it gives me chills like no pop music or musical ever could. It's in a class all of its own.

  3. Opera takes more than just talent to be able to endure and succeed. In this World of vast media we are soo exposed to soo many views of what is GOOD music or a GOOD SINGER.  Opera, the combo of artistic expression and skilled placement of the registers is not for the average joe.

I was never exposed to it as a child, I happen to learn of Opera in High school.  That was my first major,(more majors to follow),but Opera will always have a deep place in my heart, soul, life...Vissi D'arte.

How exciting to see the different interpretations of the different Opera Companies. Sometimes trying to combine avant garde tones to the centuries old music.

  4. I like listening to the beautiful music, and I love the fact that the stories are so much larger than life. Whether it's about love, revenge, or tragedy the stories are epic and the music is gorgeous (for the most part). I especially love the operas of Verdi and Puccini, and my absolute favorite opera is La Traviata.

  5. Opera has been quoted as being " a noble offspring of the

marriage of the visual and aural arts".

In essence Opera is a hybrid between theatre and music where you can experience delusions, deceptions, delight, despair, all kind of emotions that leave you wanting to go back.

I have heard operas since childhood and saw my first "live"

opera when I was 18 at the "Old Met" in NYC.

Now new operas are being produced and sung in English

that have attracted a new generation of aficionados.

Interesting enough. this young people came to hear newer

productions and later learn about the "old" operas and become "true Opera Lovers".

If you have never attended an opera I recommend that you

do, but be selective since some operas are "heavy stuff" that

are best appreciated by patrons with taste for large musical

    works (like Wagner's Operas).

If you like the romantic (and tear jerker) type of music I suggest works by Puccini - La Boheme - Madame Butterfly -

or Verdi - La Traviata - as an introduction to "grand Opera".

Strauss - Fledermaus is another happy and fun type of opera

that is well received by all types of audiences.

Hope this help in answering your question.

  6. Yes... I love Opera... I grew up around classical music and classical musicians.

  7. I myself do not tend to listen to opera music. I believe that people only listen to what they've been brought up to listen to. You're not going to have many kids nowadays that would be listening to opera music when they are trying to do homework, or what have you. I dont listen to opera because i don't honestly like it. I "appreciate" it. and i can, because i am a musician, and i know that tons of music out there is hard to put out. Opera usually goes along with classical music, which i love, so i still will listen to it.

anyways, i'm getting a little bit off track. A lot of people that i talk to cant stand opera, because they've heard it once, and their nonmusical minds dont like it AT ALL. however, plenty of people love opera music, and find it calming, etc. etc.

  8. It's basically the last media left for people with class.

  9. I like opera.

Why?  I don't really know.  Opera music just sometimes touches me in a way that other music doesn't.

I know, a few months back, I was listening to Mirella Freni singing "Si, Mi Chiamano Mimi", and it literally gave me chills.  I seriously shivered.  I am not exaggerating at all.
