Do people still like Joan Crawford?

Question

Joan Crawford (March 23, 1905 - May 10, 1977) was a legendary American actress. But I saw the movies and read her daughter's biography. So after that, or something else, do people still feel the same way about her or like her?

On her Find A Grave memorial, it always says the Flowers have been turned off because it was constantly being misused. But, all other famous legends, they have all wonderful praises on their memorial pages.

Can you tell me why this is? I know she may have hated wire hangers and was sometimes mean to her adopted daughter, Christina. But, she was not that bad, considering she adopted 3 children and she lived a very busy life as an actress, taking the generosity of her time to raise 3 children. I could easily understand it probably wasn't easy for her. I would have been drinking sometimes and throwing wire hangers and screaming. But why does her flowers turned off on her grave memorial (see link above) Please explain. I would really like to know. Thank you.

I grew up in the era of Joan Crawford movies and saw some of them, but I never did like her. The parts she played were never very likeable

According to the following websites, she is still very much appreciated as an actress. When Mommy Dearest was published, followed by the movie, I believe her popularity suffered some, but if you look at some of the trailers to her movies, she was an extremely talented actress, and ahead of her time in terms of how she wanted control over her career.  But nobody is perfect.  One of my favorite movies is Mildred Pierce, OMG, she is so bad in this!  Fashion wise, I loved her her look, rather unusual.  Like most actresses, she did not like the idea of aging...  The first link is a scene from Mildred Pierce.

I have only seen the movie about her daughters life and she was psycho.  You think her trying to strangle her daughter "was not that bad"?  Beating her with wire hangers "was not that bad"?  She adopted the children for publicity, they were her puppets, she didn't love them or adopt them because she loved children.  That's pretty screwed up that anyone would think she wasn't that bad.

Well, I like her.  She just wanted everything to be perfect...she worked hard to have what she did so why wouldn't she want to be perfect?  Maybe she just had OCD and people didn't understand that then.  If I was filthy rich I wouldn't want wire hangers in my closet either, and I would too expect everything to be spotless clean.

Why do most of you keep saying "him", we're talking about a woman here.

He was a good man in spite of a few problems.  We should remember the positive things about John, not the negative.
