Yes, May is about the only time of year to attempt an ascent, as May is usually the only time of year when weather conditions are the least harsh.  Typically by June the monsoonal flow has begun with tropical moisture getting almost continuously slammed up against the mountain range which Everest is a part, then the Fall through early to mid Spring brings high winds and blizzard-like conditions most of the time.
