  1. i don't know what causes it, but its common to walk and talk at the same time while asleep, my dad does it all the time, he puts scaffold up in his sleep, lays bricks and mixes concrete! ( its what he does for a living so maybe he doesn't switch off at night) hes even ran a bath and shouted for some one to pass him a towel, totally harmless, pretty hilarious too :) you could always advise your bro to see a specialist if your worried.

  2. I'm not sure myself but you know its a mental thing.

Most people do talk on their sleep because they're deep in their sleep, dreaming of course, and to them the dream may seem reality although they know its not, but well i don't know how to explain it but yeah.

Oh god, I'm have done terrible at explaining that haven't i?

Well, Here's a wikipedia page on it. If i were you i probably couldn't be bothered to read it Lol

  3. I only seem to sleep walk when i stay at other peoples houses, i'm not sure why but i almost walked off my balcony at university when i first started, i had to get my flatmates to lock the balcony door and hide the key from me! Try not to wake your brother whilst hes sleepwalking, just guide him back to bed and speak in a soft voice.

Waking a sleepwalker can be surprisingly dificult. They usually won't notice you or hear what you say, there's no point talking to them. If you do manage to wake them they will probably be confused, occasionally hysterical, and usually unhappy at being woken up.

So waking a sleepwalker is probably not dangerous in itself but inadvisable.

Sleepwalking is a parasomnia or sleep disorder where the sufferer engages in activities that are normally associated with wakefulness while he or she is asleep or in a sleep-like state. Sleepwalking is usually defined by or involves the person affected apparently shifting from his or her prior sleeping position and moving around and performing normal actions as if awake (cleaning, walking and other activities). It is inexact to assume that somnambulists are unconscious during their nocturnal sleepwalking episodes. They are simply not conscious of their actions on a level where memory of the sleepwalking episode can be recalled, and because of this, unless the sleepwalker is awakened or aroused by someone else, this sleep disorder can go unnoticed. Sleepwalking is more commonly experienced in people with high levels of stress, anxiety or psychological factors and in people with genetic factors (family history), or sometimes a combination of both.

A common misconception is that sleepwalking is acting out the physical movements within a dream, but in fact, sleepwalking occurs earlier on in the night when rapid eye movement (REM), or the "dream stage" of sleep, has not yet occurred.

It is normal for sleepwalkers to talk, from the odd word to full sentences the sleeper usually has no memory of their action and it does not affect sleep.

  4. Yes, people can talk whilst sleepwalking. My boyfriend used to do it all the time, especially if he had a heavy night drinking beforehand. He would try walking to the toilet, but generally ended up somewhere totally different so I had to guide him. I would say things like, 'Your are going the wrong way, come on' and he would argue he was going the right way. It made me laugh sometimes, but I'm glad hes stopped doing it now!

  5. i have no idea. but whenever my friends comeover or when mom can't sleep & come over to my room, she tells me in the morning that i sleep with my eyes open & that i was speaking multiple langauges i don't even know how to speak.

and one of my friends told me i was singing abc's & that i was saying wierd stuff about my 5th grade teacher.

  6. I have done some most peculiar things whilst sleepwalking including the following:1.Having a complete conversation with a member of staff and then firing them.2.Eating my sons packed lunch which had been readied for the following day and leaving all the empty packaging in the lunchbox.3.Sleepwalking down a flight of 14 stairs in two paces (Try to do that awake if you dare) 4.Completely altering the positions of the bedroom furniture.5. Having a conversation with my brother and his wife whilst sitting stark naked at the bottom of their bed.6. Finding myself coverered in mud one morning upon waking up. These are only the ones i know about as people were good enough to tell me. I think your brother is in a lot better position than me.
