Do people that compare events to movies watch too many movies?

Someone got a heartland tornado on video yesterday. The voice says, "It's like a science fiction movie." Some People would compare seeing the World Trade Center fall said that it was like watching a movie. I think, at those times, if they're even thinking about movie, they watch too many.

No---I think movies are part of of social consciousness and they are really unextricable from our notions of reality----for better or worse.

I think it is the inability to differentiate between the two, they are often intertwined, sometimes for some and in some instances the speakers lack of depth to come up with a more creative or illustrative comparison.  Hollywood sucks and TV eats the mind.

Obviously what they mean to say is that it looks unreal. They could say that, but nobody uses that word very much, they use weird, and weird isn't adequate enough. So, when they can't use weird and they don't use unreal, they use it looks like a movie, which doesn't, I don't think, actually mean that it looks like a movie to them, how could it? I would be too frightened to compare something big to anything. They just use that description because they don't use unreal.

No, it's impossible to watch too many movies.  Movies are great!

It's just because a lot of movies, especially action and horror movies have things in them that you don't usually see everyday, and it is a clear reference that others will understand.

it really depends.if they compare real life to movies they may watch too many movies or,they may just have a special connecting ability.what i mean is that for example,if someone saw a lego tower fall over then the next day saw the a building collapse,they might connect the two collapeses and say their thoughts.anyway,in the future just look deeper than what you see.
