I speak spanish because I'm mexican american but mexicans don't have the same accent as cubans when they speak spanish so why do people seem a little surprised when I tell them I'm not cuban?

  1. you look mexican and boy do i know mexicans

  2. I can tell because I have a few mexican friends and they are not indigenous looking if that is what you were referring to. You are in Miami, and since it is predominantly a Cuban society, you will be mistaken often. Handsome by the way.

  3. The thing is that most of the spanish speakers in Miami are Cubans, I am Cuban and live in Miami, and I have noticed that there are not many Mexicans living in Miami that is why they ask you if you are Cuban. I am also sure that you have mixed with Cubans, and w/o noticing, your Mexican accent have gone away.

  4. Because racists have stereotypes of what Mexicans are "supposed" to look like and they become confused when they meet someone who doesnt fit "their" stereotype. Most Mexican Americans actually come in all shades.
