Do people think a monarch should rule Britain instead of the government?

You only need to look at Gordon Brown! I think people have a point when they say 'the government is all the same' However, the royal family have something which has been lost in our society- British pride. They would have our best interests at heart. I don't understand people that want to abolish them. Sometimes change isn't always a good thing, so maybe we should go back to having a monarch in power.

  1. I don't want them to rule because then they could do anything and some day a big headed idiot Will get to be monarch and probably bring beheading. With government this can't happen because they would just get voted out.

I do agree that they have the best interests at heart and they should get more power and say in government. All they seem to do these days is attend parades and open buildings, thinking this is the family that won the right to be rulers through fighting century's ago.

  2. "You can vote out lousy politicians " then why is bush still in power??? do you not think we would have voted him out of office years ago if we could.

  3. All i can say is they can't make things any worse than the government, they may be more considerate to the normal working class people, and maybe even tax the rich ones even more to compensate the less fortunate, so it helps them get out of poverty. I for one would not want to get rid of the monarch.

I disagree. The Parliament would take out of the Throne someone like that and public opinion(which has had so much relevance in Britain's History) would not tolerate a Monarch like that.Although,I agree, that there could always be some Absolutist family like the Stuart House.

Anyway I would like the Monarch and the Parliament to rule Britain(Although I wonder how you might get members for the House of Commons since most of them belong to Political Parties and,if a Monarch rules, there are none...Maybe like in the House of Commons origins?)

  5. The Queen's influence is underestimated.  She has the experience of 11 prime ministers (her first was Winston Churchill) with whom she has had meetings almost weekly and through being well informed and dedicated to the task of "a public servant" commands much respect.  While she excercises no real power she has imparted guidance and influence from her experience.

Nevertheless, however much the current monarch can be admired, history tells us there has been a rather mixed bunch on the throne for better and worse.  Giving autonomy to a monarch would also fly in the face of the people's ability to put in or remove those who rule via the ballot.

One of the monarch's main purposes (whether by design or not) is not to wield actual power, but to prevent total pwer being assumed by anyone else.

  6. You can vote out lousy politicians, but unfortunately, the electorate has more of a habit of voting in lousy politicians. One only has to look at the US: Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, Bush Sr. and Bush Jr.

I don't think monarchs are bad. As Toby said they keep politicians from running amok.

  7. Yes.  I think Queen Elizabeth II should rule the UK.  She rocks!  Long live the Queen!

  8. The Queen is great but she won't live forever.  Do you actually want Prince Charles to have real power?  You can vote out lousy politicians but monarch need to die or be killed before you get change.

you can get much information in this website, If you will check anyone blue link in website.

  10. In an Absolute monarchy, the monarch has the total power to rule, freely.

The  heir/heiress to the throne not always possesses the qualities needed to be a good monarch and the people wouldn't have the right to have an opinion. A scenario like that can lead to an extreme situation (extremes are usually not good). All you have to do is remember history.

In a constitutional monarchy, there is more balance (I didn't say total balance), people have more power and in my point of view, a system like that can avoid those extreme situations.

Fortunately, Queen Elizabeth is one of the best assets the monarchy has ever had.
