Do people wait to turn 24 since there considered independent, so the govt will cover there college costs?

if your 24 and ur going to school they will cover your college expenses by how much i can't say

  1. It all depends on your income, familial support, and other factors.  This is why you fill out the FAFSA form, and it is based on your previous year's taxes.  Some people may be waiting because they want to be clear of any perceived parental support if they are really on their own, is my guess.


  2. Not to my knowledge, there may be some people that wait because of that reason, but that doesn't stop the majority of people. Even as a dependent student you can receive assistance from the government, depending on your parents financial situation, in some cases your parents may make too much which limits your ability to get financial aide, but even so why would you want to wait so long to continue your education?

  3. Some do wait until they are over 24 to apply, but just becasue thier parents income isn't listed doesn't mean they will have their college costs paid for.  Anyone can get finanical aid in the form of student loans, regardless of parental income.
