Question:

Do people want to know who is delivering their newspaper?

I just started delivering the newspaper and one of the other carriers suggested that I make a flier to introduce myself and include a telephone number/address where the customers can reach me. Her reason behind this is two fold. 1. When the holiday's roll around they will know where to send a tip if they choose 2. If they have a complaint the can contact me instead of the newspaper directly (we loose a dollar of pay for each complaint) So do you think this is a good idea? It almost seems odd to me.

  1. As someone who gets the paper, but has never delivered it, this sounds like a good idea.

I always get annoyed when my carrier sends a Christmas card expecting a tip. And we recently got a new carrier who continually misses our house. When he does remember our house, the paper is under the car.

I think it would be preferable for a customer to be able to call you directly and say there's a problem, then for them to have to go through the paper and not be sure if the carrier was informed or not.

  2. Yes, especially at Christmas time. A gift to show your gratitude for the special things they do, we don't see.

And I have done this and it is very hard, it would be find if you had a team mate who can wrap and throw while you drive.

If you do this at early A:M the police will stop you, they are just serving and protecting.
