Do people wear Harry Potter costumes to the Fan Expo?

I am going to the Fan Expo (held in Toronto) and this will be my first year going. I want to dress up but i can't afford anything to extravagant, nor can i sew. So i was wondering if it would be appropriate to wear a Harry Potter-type costume to his type of event? Has anyone ever seen anyone dressed up as someone from the Harry Potter universe at events such as Fan Expo or Comic Con?

I've been going for the past 4 years, going again this year. Since Fan Expo is a comic book/anime/gaming/horror/sci-fi convention, the majority of cosplayers you'll see will be anime, comic book, video game characters, as well as any sort of geek-oriented character from television, movies or elsewhere (Usually lots of Star Wars characters). I do remember seeing a few cloaked, Harry Potter scarf wearing people, but they were far outnumbered by all the other lavished cosplayers. Unless you're dressed up like one of the more unique-looking characters like Mad-Eye Moody, you might feel a little silly and foolish in just a scarf and cloak when you're walking next to and see the extremes that some people go to build their costumes. You might wish you had just worn plain clothes.

But you know what? Who cares. You should do whatever you feel like doing. If you love Harry Potter and want to express that by dressing up as a character, I say go for it! Fan Expo is all about people coming together to celebrate their love for all thinks geek and fringe culture. You should by no means feel ashamed to do and dress the way you want to at a convention, especially considering some of the garish and ridiculous costumes and people you're going to be seeing and walking beside.
