Do people who are physically fit sing better?

Would a top athlete be a better singer than a couch potato? Would they have an easier time? Or would the sedentary person have it easier?

Just out of curiosity.

  1. Depends what sort of singing you do. It is a very individual thing. Some classical singers are also keep fit fanatics, others find that if they do too much running it is actually quite hard for them to keep up their vocal strength too. Some say that having the chest muscles too tight (toned) also reduces the quality of the singing voice. THink it is a highly personal matter.

  2. no there are plenty of out of shape, overweight people who sing wonderfully and physically fit people who cant sing a note.

size/fitness has nothing to do with singing ability

  3. maybe

  4. most great singers are opera and most are fat or big

  5. well i dont think so. some big singers soung great and some sound bad same for skinny singers it varies from person to person

  6. Not nessesarily.

Have you heard of Aretha Franklin? Shes a big lady, and she can sing better than most of these stick thin so called singers.

  7. Your whole body wouldn't need to be fit, but you would have to take serious care of your lungs and vocal cords. This takes a surprising amount of work--building lung capacity and endurance as well as getting your voice to be strong and steady is very difficult. You can't eat (or drink) a lot of sugar, or chocolate, or caffeine, you shouldn't smoke, have lots of water, watch out for allergies and colds, etc.

  8. A fit person would definitely have an easier time holding a note because they would have better lung capacity. A non-smoker would also have an easier time singing for simalar reasons.

But just because you're physically fit doesn't mean that you're a good singer. I know a lot of fat people who can really sing.
