This is my first time having a party at a place with a DJ and all. I am just wondering if I am the only one who has written out a time line for the night. Like the party starts at 8pm so i put from 8-:25pm the dj will just play regualr music because I am assuimin that not every1 will be there so during those 20min ppl will b arriving so the party dance music shouldnt start till 8:30 at least. Then from 8:30-9:00 its just dancingg and stuff.. then from 9:00-9:40- Food then from9:40- 10:20- Dancing again then from 10:20- 11:45 Cake and karaoke then from 11:45- 1am is just dancing.

How long do people usually get at a party to eat? and to cut the cake and sing happy birthday how long of a time frame is that?

I wanna make sure there is enough time for everything.

  1. Well 1st off yes its a GREAT idea to have a time line. But is this food supposed to be dinner because that is a little late to be eating dinner. A lot of guests might have already ate. Let the DJ play whatever they feel is appropriate! You dont want people walking in thinking "this dj sucks and this party is going to be boring!" But if you only have the place starting at 8 then start serving around 8:30, once again let the music keep playing dont turn it off! That would be a bad idea because not EVERYONE will eat! Only turn the music off once you are ready to do the cake. Do the cake and karaoke! Then begin dancing again! Be aware though that doing karaoke is most likely either going to run a lot longer than you want it to and some people might not want to here bad singers when the DJ could be playing songs for them to dance to OR no one will want to sing karaoke so it would be a waste of time. As for how long people get to eat. Once the food is served let people eat at there own pace. Dont take there food away. This isnt a formal affair is it!?  People will eat get up and dance eat and so on! Personally i think the DJ should pretty much keep the music going as much as possible to keep your guests entertained. Usually if you stop people from dancing then they loose the "mood" and dont keep dancing! Hope i helped good luck!

  2. Are people going through a line to get their own food, or is the food being brought to each table?   If people go through a line, you have to give them time to get their food, get back to their tables and eat.  This can take a good amount of time if you are having 40-50 people.

If you are having it catered, you need to give the caterers enough time to get set up, serve, and then clean up and leave the area.  9:40-10:20 doesn't sound like much time to eat in my opinion.
