  1. No we do not. We pay into railroad retirement.

  2. I beleive after you pay into rrr for 5 years your social security rolls over into the rrr fund..

  3. They should, if they don't.

  4. Nope, railroad retirement is completely separate from social security.

We pay in at a much higher rate than social security but our retirement is better so it is $$ well spent.

In fact all the money my wife has paid into social security she will never draw a dime from.

She will drew spouse's share of railroad retirement but none of the social security she contrubutes each payday.  Her retirement will be exactly the same as if she had never worked so I guess in that respect we pay in but never get any returns from it.

Likewise any job I held previously that paid into social security, that money is lost.

And unlike social security, RR retirement is a solvent system.

  5. Yes!

  6. If you go to Railroad retirement web site it will send you to SS web site.

We drawing RR retirement you can not draw SS because if you do they will deduct the SS amount from the RRR. Only good thing is the spouse can draw your RRR too.
