I planted poppied from pots and they did not flower this year, and now the foliage seems to be dying back. Are they dead or do they normally die back until next year?

  1. Okay there are many kinds of poppies out there. Perrennial poppies do lose their foilage after they produce flowers especially the Oriental poppies. Oriental Poppies will resprout leaves in spring and do not like transplanting and watterlogged (soggy) soil.

The same rule applies to Iceland Poppies but Iceland poppies are Siberian Biennials you may have to wait until next year for flowers.

  2. Yes they do, I usually cut mine down to the ground and sometimes I'm lucky enough to get a second show about September, can't promise though.

  3. I have a TONS of poppies, and they are mostly died back right now.  I have a few seed pods still visible, but all the leaves are gone!!  Mine do this every year and come back even better the next year!!

  4. Yes, they really are Spring flowering and usually die completely back after blooming.
