Do they make good pets ?

Are yellow canary's good pets ?

What other types of canary's are there ?

Can i get 1 from a nearby petsmart or petco ?

I stay in clewiston florida and i think there is a petsmart in palm beach.

Canaries make good pets only if you want a bird that probably won't interact with you like a parrot. If you want a singer, you'll have to get a male and if possible, try to find a "guaranteed" singer. If you get a young male, you'll literally have to TEACH it to sing, using tapes or CDs of singers.

PLEASE don't get one from Petsmart or any other large chain pet store. Look for private breeders (and Florida is FULL of them -- two of my three caiques are Florida natives).

carneys are good pets, but u cant really interact with them, they like their space and rarely hand tame, they also run over 100 bucks, if u want a pet that will become your bud and can handtame i would stick with a parakeet or a cockatiel parakeets run about 15 bucks and a cockatiel runs about 75  check out for some guides on them http://www.parrotcentral.net/companion_p...

That is a tough question to answer because what is a good pet to one person is not to another. Canaries are good if you want a bird that stays in it's cage and you can just have it there to listen and watch. They don't bond strongly with their human families and there is never a guarantee that it will in fact sing - male or not, unless it already does so.

My suggestion is that you do research on them and other birds before you make a decision. There are so many birds that end up in shelters or neglected because people have impulse bought them without understanding that particular type of birds health, psychological and emotional needs.

Look around online awhile, look at different pet stores, etc... THEN make a decision. Ask yourself this- What do I want and expect out of a bird? Will this type of bird meet those expectations? Then start shopping and have fun with your new feathered baby!!
