do pets at home sell the rat balls that well you know you can put your rat in to run around the floor in, without having them loose. i want to buy one, as 1 of my rats hasnt been out of his cage as he is very jumpy, and i feel he would be safe in the ball and he could run around my carpet for a bit

  1. My pets don't sell anything, but my neighbor's cat is one helluva crack dealer.

  2. I expect they do, i know they sell them at dolittles but i don't think thats a chain store.

  3. First you should try trust training with your rat and not leave it in a cage all the time. And rats should never be put in one of those balls they already have poor eye sight as is so this will just make it harder for them to see. And those balls do not have very good ventilation and if you are not careful your rats could seriously overheat in a ball. The only thing I use those balls for is to hang in the cage for a bed.

  4. Have you tried your local pet shop?

If you (and many more) buy from 'Pets at Home' that's one less sale for a small independent shop, that will close due to large multiples!

  5. I'm sure that Pets at Home would sell them. It seems to sell everything.

I wouldn't let your rat use the ball over a carpet. Let it run around the garden or an indoors area with vinyl flooring that you can wash easily. Rats are incontinent and urinate continuously. Rat urine smells horrifically and you don't want it on carpet or furniture.

  6. Yes we do, can't remember how much they are though. Remember they don't provide great ventilation so never keep them in the ball for more than 10-15 minutes at a time. They can also overheat, which can be harmful to them.

  7. i dunno go and look!

  8. Actually, I wouldn't really recommend a ball for your rats. They have poor ventilation and a lot of rats just plain don't like them. Some are scared of being inside of them. I'd recommend just giving them lots of out of cage time to run around.

I used to let my rats free range in the bathroom. It's tile floor which makes for easy clean up and there wasn't much they could get under or stuck in. Just make sure any cleaners are tucked safely away and the toilet bowl lid is down!

  9. yes they do they are about £20

  10. Yes they do, so do Acorn Pets, they range between £15.00 and £20.00 each.  I had c ouple when I had my ratty boys and it was great to see them zooming about the house usually chasing on of the dogs!

  11. I was at Pets At Home the other day shopping for my Chinchillas. They had 3 different sizes of plastic balls for small animals. I think the really large one was 14.99.

  12. You can get large rat balls, but even better would be a playpen, that was the out of cage time is safe and you can ensure that he gets enough air.  The poor ventilation in those balls can lead to upper-respritory problems.

If you are in America, Martins Cages has a fantastic playpen for rats.  I highly recommend it.  In other countries I'm sure you can find a nice playpen if you look around.  They are worth it!  Marshalls also makes a playpen that people swear by, as well as the Grrreat Wall (best to google those)

If not you can make one yourself using slits cut into boards.  Cheap, easy and effective! Probably cheaper than the ball...

  13. yes i have had 1 before
