  1. You would get better gas mileage with the tailgate closed, also if some a*****e comes flying behind you and stops to late they don't slam into your tailgate which you know someone would eventually.


  2. The Mythbusters took this one on quite some time ago.  The gas mileage is better with the tailgate up.

  3. Myrtbusters did this and said that you get less drag w/ the gate up.
