  1. Only when they are awke!

  2. They could.

Some headsets allow pilots to listen to whatever music they can get from the radio (if possible) or to something like an ipod.

However, these headsets are programmed to interrupt whenever there's a transmission on the radio, so they won't be ignoring anything important from ATC.

  3. No, even conversation not involving the flight is a no-no to the FAA.

  4. HAHA! Officially....no we are no supposed to.  But I know a lot of guys who do. :) You can buy special headsets that have an audio jack to plug in an mp3 player and the headsets have an independent volume control for the audio device.  To prevent us pilots from missing ATC radio calls, the headsets have a nifty little device that turns down the music volume when there is any talking on the radio.  Rock on!

  5. I heard from a current United pilot that they get really good at crossword puzzles.

    PS

I am curious why my answer has garnered me two thumbs down.  I know a pilot for United.  Former Military Pilot.  Flies left seat on an Airbus.  He showed me his crossword puzzle book that goes with him on every flight.  What is so hard to believe?  I do not just make up stuff to rack up points.

  6. We did flying medivac in vietnam. Tuned the ADF to armed forces radio and rocked.

  7. I heard they make out with the air hostess' when they're bored.

  8. no thay watch sky

  9. Good old AFN John B.

Seems like crews are always asking us how to connect other stuff to the interphone system on our C130s, tho I'm not rattin' on anyone.

  10. Sure they can ! Time permitting, and of course at a low volume.

  11. I've spoken to many pilot, and there not supposed to listen because of FAA Rules, but they do sometimes.  (Especially on Night Flights!!)

  12. we used to hook up our ipods to speakers until the company told us no-no.
