  1. i get paid a base salary plus commissions for every flight i go on, if i stay over night, cross the border, hand load the freight, wait for freight, ect. I can live off my base salary just fine, but the commissions, or bonuses, or whatever you wanna call it, is pretty nice.

  2. Man I wish I got paid commission on every passenger. If I got a dollar for every passenger I flew, I'd be making cash hands over fist. I'm calling hr tomorrow

  3. Generally its a salary but in reality its a Wage, as far as commissions that is generally based on Sales type jobs.

Salary = Set amount of money per period ie: $50,000

Wage = Set period pay per time put in ie: 18.56 / hr.

Commission = usually a percentage of the sale  1.5% of %x*x.00

  4. pure salary

    some long-haul BA captains r on $250k a year!

  5. Shawn, pilots are paid salary, in accordance with a contract between the pilot, personally, or if they are a union member, with the contract between the union and the employer. Most airline pilots are members of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), and the ALPA negotiates contracts with airlines.

  7. Wow, almost every answer said salary, and I don't know any pilots who make a salary!  Well, perhaps corporate pilots do, but almost all airline pilots are paid by the hour of flying, not salary or commission.  There is a minimum that they make, say on reserve, 70 or 75 hours, depending on their contract or work rules.  Then, if they fly more than that, they get the difference.  They also get per diem for food and expenses when on the road.  That's one reason pilots don't like delays before the push, as they only get paid when the aircraft is out of the gate.

  8. Lol, commission would be frightening wouldn't it?

  9. Salary

  10. There are some poor low time pilots that get paid for flying only.  You can tell where they work because they stampede every time there is a new customer (like for a flight school).  I guess this could be like commission.

But most pilot's get paid a base salary no matter how many hours they fly.
