  1. In my experience plants tend to do better with sunlight.  Artificial light can lack the proper mix of wavelengths necessary for some developmental processes.  Also, direct sunlight is always more intense than artificial light.  Higher intensities support higher rates of photosynthesis and, hence, growth.

  2. The answer to

your question is both no and yes. No, single colors of electric light will

generally not be better than natural sunlight. Natural Sunlight also contains the right colours such as blue and green which the plant needs essentially.

The exception would be if natural sunlight was low, as during winter in a

greenhouse, and you provided a high level of electric light from a sodium vapor

lamp. In that case, plant growth may be better with electric light than

sunlight. Sodium vapor lamps provide yellow light.

  3. sunlight cause it has all the right vitamins.

  4. The benefit of artificial light is that you can control it (i.e. no shade from clouds, no night, etc).  Artificial light vary in intensity, wavelengths, etc. so some are better than others but full sunlight is probably best for plants.
