  1. It is quite possible that all who were invited to play the Masters may have received a stipend if they missed the cut. This, however, does not equate to an appearance fee. Appearence fees are when Ells, Woods and others are guaranteed big bucks for playing in Dubai or Algeria.

  2. no

  3. It's not like NASCAR where you get tow money just for showing up.

  4. Yes they do.  The specific amount is not disclosed, but around the 10K mentioned.  Not only do they have an "appearance fee" but they strangely enough have a "non-appearance fee".  Prior to the late 1990's, a lot of the past champions from the 50s and 60s would still play, because they were allowed to, and mainly because showing up in the Masters field was a nice check, and most of them were on social security, if nothing else.

Rather than keep the old fellas from taking up one of the player slots that could be filled by a "name" or someone that could genuinely contend, they (competition committee) have begun to just send the old fellas a check not to show up, or at least not to play.

  5. I believe the total prize money for 2007 was $7.25M. If you add up all the prize money for the finishers; golfers who made it through Sunday's play, you would have $6.8M. The remainder gets split up with the players that did not make the cut, depending on their score. I don't know how much that equates to. I believe it varies based on their score.
