Question:

Do plumbers have to guarantee their work?

I had to call in a plumber in May to fix a leaky tap. He said it was fixed but I noticed water coming through my kitchen ceiling, checked the tap and it's still leaking. Are they obliged to fix it under guarantee and how long (legally) should this guarantee last? All answers appreciated - thanks in advance.

  1. Yes, their guarantee is usually water tight.

    Lol

  2. If they say to you they guarantee there work its usually for about 12 months....Call them and tell them whats happened and that you expect him to put it right free of charge. If he refuses tell him that if he doesnt he will be reported to the plumbers federation and to the Chamber of Commerce and to but not least the Councils Trading Standards Office.

  3. Now a tradesman or any service provider is not obliged to offer any warantee guarantee, they must however, do a good job.

If they fail to do so, and a problem occurs as a result, you can take legal action. See trading standards site, etc. You will need to get a 2nd opinion if there is a problem you wish to pursue, but the best med is get a d**n good plumber-one that someone you trust has recommended.

Good luck. Hope is of help.

  4. This all depends on where you found this plumber, for instance, if you found some guy advertising and he wasn't qualified the your chances of him rectifying are slim. Cowboys don't usually care what happens once they have your money!

If however, you called a professional person with qualifications and you saw the same leak still dripping then you should call him back and expect the leak to be fixed for nothing. As you already paid him to fix it, but he didn't do the job adequately. If they refuse then I would call your local consumer and public protection office and report them. They will chase them up for you, or at least advise you what to do legally.

  5. Yeah, they should guarantee their work, but you just try getting them back! I just gave up trying the other year when 'shoddy' work by plumbers just was not put right. I kept ringing, and in the end I just bit the bullet and sorted it out myself. Maybe, if you got a NICE plumber, he'll come back, but I wouldn't hold your breath. Some of them use that adage "well, it's only like your MOT on your car maam, it was okay when it left the garage". USELESS.

  6. i think you should call them back and not pay them any money complain!1!

they done that to my dad in jan the tap in our bathroom was leaking when we turned it on which meant it leaked down to our cieling to our living room then took some of the tiles off  then my dad called then back made sure he fixed everything and extra including the tilee and told him to get out!!
