Is it true that plums do not ripen once they have been picked from the tree. And if so, why do they differ from other fruits?

  1. Nearly all fruit does, including plums.


  2. Plums do continue to ripen after being picked....especially when left out in the sun.....I am not 100% sure of this but I think it has to do the the type of "skin" on a plum it is thin enough to continue ripening similar to a tomato that is picked green and left out in the sun.

  3. They do continue to ripen - they go very soft & go off just the same as other fruit.

  6. no dont think they do - perhaps its the pectins or fructose fault

  7. Yes, if you leave them too long they go all wrinkled.
