Question:

Do poker dealers get tipped after tournaments or higher pay?

I have one week to decide if I want to pay the money to go to school to become a dealer or try something else. I live a good 50 miles from Biloxi, I have a scooter so the drive won't be a big expense but school will. I have the craps skill as I dealt craps for a company that hired out dealers to do casino games for parties. The schools is going to teach me blackjack, mini bacarrat and three card poker. I would learn poker if I believed I could first make it easier to be hired and second make good enough money to be worth the expense. I have noticed alot of casinos have these tournaments and the dealers aren't being tipped during the tournament but what about afterwards? I just need to figure out if it is worth it to pursue dealing as a job especially here in Biloxi. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1.    I think dealing cards is something a person has to enjoy. It is not a get rich quick ordeal. Dealing poker I average $15.00 an hour tips inc. but I really like it.

  2. pit dealers make between $100-$200 a shift depending on which casino you work, most have a 24hour split, which is all tips put together and divided among all the dealers. Poker is different, you keep all your tips from all ring games, in the bigger tourneys a small percentage of prize pool is removed for dealers tips, usually around 2.5 percent. Daily average tips for a poker dealer is roughly the same, depends on which you prefer. Poker dealing is slower pace and more relaxing than dealing in a casino pit without pit boss watching over your shoulder.Extra bonus if you deal a jackpot in poker. some people tip pretty good especially if its one of your regulars.

I dont know much about parties but im talking about the real thing.

    Good Luck, hope this helps
