Living in north wales is a real sod if you drive all day for a living!. Anyway, I passed yet another camera van and i must have been doing about 33-35MPH. As i passed it, i realised the operater inside was hanging out of the side window talking to some road workers?, is there anyway of knowing whether these camera need to be manually worked or if they record automatically??. I need to put my mind at rest. Any knowledgeable answers greatfully recieved!!

  1. there automatic with automatic number plate recognition

  2. No the camera is on a tripod in front of the van usually and is automatic....  The driver often snoozes in the cab...

  3. Well, you wouldn't get done for 33mph normally although you do say that you live in N Wales and isn't that where the police are rather strict in their interpretation of speed limits?

  4. They can be auto =]

They have specially developed software to read numberplates, tax disks all sorts ... I have speant a bit of time programming these types of software for Newport Police in S Wales..

    Sorry mate ;)

  5. I looked at the following site.

    http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/faqlaserde...

It is implied here that camera vans are typically manned. Also, logically, it is difficult for a radar or laser gun to identify and track a car in the way that a human could. The automatic cameras are more useful for obvious cases of a violation such as running a red light. You are probably in the clear.

  6. I would say that they are like traffic camera's.. They are un-manned.

But again.. in the court of law your innocent until proven guilty.  They need to prove you were driving.

  7. there auto motion sensor

  8. Unmanned, the camera have a speed sensor that activates it.  If you can get away with it, move your license plate to the rear window and never have to worry about cameras again.

  9. I believe they are automatic.

  10. the cameras are automatic and read and check the number plates if there is a warning that is given to the operator who then radio's his friends down the road to pull you over.

these vans are more concerned with insurance and tax and false plates than minor speeding. they can also automatically issue speeding tickets if you are more than 5mph over the limit so you should be safe as most new speedo's read 4% faster than the true speed to avoid speeding convictions!

  11. auto the ppl are in there for confromation my mom does that

  12. that one will be automatic...the anpr cams are also automatic  but as they have to pull u to do u then they need opperators...
