Do police mind if you have your high beams on during the daytime when it's sunny out?

Most motorcyclists do this and it is widely accepted. Why not automobiles? Car headlights are no brighter or different than motorcycle headlights, so why not?

  1. I don't think any cop would pull you over for using your high beams on a sunny day........it wouldn't interfere with another driver's vision. On an overcast day, however, I think another driver would notice high beams.

  2. As an ex-cop I can say : No police officer in his right mind would write You a ticket for fear of the ribbing that he would receive when the Sgt. looked over the tickets for accuracy and completeness.

Unless it was a day that the lights were required (dark, overcast, etc) it would be very difficult to even notice.

Let me say this: I drive with my bright lights on during the day and PITY the officer who stopped me for doing so. His ears would BURN badly !!!  (kinda like a flickering dome lamp!!)

We refer to those kind of tickets of having "chicken feathers all over them"  Dirty ones!!

  3. You could be ticketed for this, they would call it failure to dim your lights and yes it is somewhat blinding others on the roads.

  4. Drivers increass their safety margin by driving with their low beams - not the high beams.

In fact many late model cars have daytime running lights that don't turn off - giving these cars  better insurance rates!

    Leave those low beams on!
