  1. People seem to be comfortable within their stereotypes. They already know what to expect from that "culture" and the norms.

Also in high school, fellow students have expectations. If the cheerleader dates the gothic kid, there must be something wrong with her. It's an automatic assumption she will date the quarterback.

Also unfortunately, people are prejudiced against the other cliques.

  2. HECK YES>

Especially in high school. I personally think it's dumb in many cases.

Some of them do it because they have found a common interest with the person being in the same social group, or they do it becasue society influenced them to.

  3. I believe in high school that is totally true. I mean on rare occasions you might find some kids dating out of there "stereotype" but generally you always find somebody with in your "group" of friends.

  4. I strongly believe that people tend to date within their own class irrespective of race.

Eg:  Black/White couple but both upper-middle class.

Hispanic/White couple but both working class.

           White/White couple both middle-class.

Class seems to be the strongest variable in the determination of with whom one associates.  Many studies have investigated this question.

  5. mostly just in high school. though I HAVE seen a few couples where the girl is all hard core emo and the guy's a jock, and stuff like that. It's mostly just to fit in, and cuz people can identify with other people who are within their stereotype easier.  it's just easier to associate yourself with them. It seems so stupid though now that i think of it!
