  1. You need to purchase a Parakeet Handbook. They will mate as many as 10-15 times a day. Some hens will leave her eggs to go breed with the male. There isn't a set number of days. I have had fertile eggs from a hen as many as 13 days after she was separated from her mate.

They have no breeding season. They breed when there is going to be an abundance of food. So a rich diet will induce their conditioning.

I have had hens lay as many as 11 eggs in a clutch. Some hens will only lay 3- 5 eggs in a clutch. I keep mine anywhere from 40 degrees to as high as 85 degrees.

You will see a pair of birds in the act of mating but that doesn't necessarily mean they are going to the nest.

Parakeets normally require parakeet chatter to bring them into breeding condition. Some say that talk radio will do the same thing but I haven't tried it. I have plenty of chatter here.

Don't be disappointed if your birds don't lay eggs and raise babies. A good number of the parakeets that hatch out don't make good breeders. They will kill babies, eat eggs and many other problems. Or just when they get to ready to start leaving the nest one of the parents will kill them. Some birds don't want to breed if you wait till they are two years old to start them. Also starting them too early will have it's own pit falls. The ideal age is 14-18 months old to pair them up. Good luck.
