In California, health class is a requirement in high school, and they do teach it at the Catholic High School I'm going to, but I was wondering, since Catholics are so against abortion, do they teach about it when they teach s*x ed? Or do they just preach abstinence?

  1. It depends on school to school.  I went to a Christian school that wasn't Catholic, so abortion and premarital s*x were frowned upon, but birth control/condoms were generally okay.  So we learned a lot about STDs, Birth control, condoms, and actually a fair bit about abortion.  In fact, leaving high school and going to university I realized that I had a more thorough s*x education then most of the kids that went to public school, and that really surprised me.  Many still thought doubling up on condoms was a great idea, and that STD's couldn't cause infertility.

In Catholic schools they do have health class, and some Catholic schools are barely Catholic so they will teach everything, where as others will teach about STD's, abstinence, and Natural Family Planning for when your married.  Some Catholic schools won't have a s*x ed unit.  It really varies.

  2. I've gone to private school all my life and they have only ever preached abstinence once in the entire time I've been in school. Catholics are also strongly noted for shunning abortion and birth control.

  3. I doubt they do but they should tell about birth control and effects and how if you are on other prescription drugs it will become less effective and all that. No matter how much you preach and lecture it's going to happen so you may as well show them how to be safe. My school is a public school but they do tell you the only 100% affective method is abstinence. We never learned about abortions though there really isn't a need its common knowledge.

  4. usually catholic schools (also christian schools) preaches abstinence because they believe abortion and birth controls are sins, as is premarital s*x. However, there are a few very liberal catholic schools that do help students learn about birth controls and abortions (that is VERY rare). There are only a handful of those schools in the entire US. Basic s*x ed in California is mostly just anatomy stuff and teaching you the bad consequences of s*x, such as STDs, some private schools teach even less than that. At my California public high school, s*x ed consisted of a one hour lecture on STDs and how date rape is also rape. My high school didn't even teach us about abortion and safe s*x and it is very liberal even as a public school. So.... chances are, you won't learn much as far as health class goes in any school.

  5. I go to a Catholic school and we were learning about s*x ed today, and our teacher brought it up and told us what we can and cant do with our religion. We asked a few questions back but she was unable to answer to them and just said "I don't know if i can tell you that" and told us to ask our parents at home. Many of us didn't even know what we can and cant do with our religion but most of us just shrugged it off.

  6. The Catholic Church does not condone abortion. One of the reasons is that this would be killing an unborn child. The Catholilc church is quite has a quite open mindness of the problems that teenages face today. This is how I feel about the Catholic Churchs teachings of certain things that are done today. The Cathkolic Churches welcomes all people. I hopes this helps you out.
