  1. No commercial aircraft have airbags. No private aircraft come equipped with airbags, though it is concievable that an owner could install them. The problem with airbags on airplanes is that they would add a lot of weight, cost, and complexity, would be incredibly difficult to include in a standard passenger cabin, and any impact hard enough to deploy the bags would probably tear apart the aircraft, negating the usefullness of the bags. They just aren't cheap or effective enough to be included.

  2. If you are flying towards the ground at 300mph... cars get hit at 60mph and airbags do not save them so then why are planes different...

  3. No they don't. They fly at higher velocities than a car, so it would be pretty useless. You have the brace possition instead and seatbelts, and multi point seatbelts for the pilots.

  4. These people don't know what they are talking about.

Almost all new private aircraft for sale now have airbags installed in the seat belts and they can be retrofitted to pretty much any small aircraft in existence.

They can also be retrofitted or installed new in passenger airliners, but due to the extra cost and lack of incentive, few carriers have installed them.

  5. I have to agree with Calnickel (again). Yes, you can obtain bag equipped seat belts on most new light aircraft and they are reasonably effective for the most common light aircraft incidents like runway loss of control, and other minor incidents. No, an airbag won't keep you safe in a high speed collision but for the most common problems, they work. And they can be retrofitted into most light aircraft.

  6. the fabric part of a hot air balloon is called an airbag, but that's the only one you'll find in aviation.

  7. I don't think so
