Question:

Do professional chefs cook at home?

This is for the professional chef. After spending a good part of your day cooking for the public do you cook at home as well? If you get tired of cooking wouldn't you tell your kids to warm up some spaghetti-o's or make a bologna sandwich? Car mechanics sometimes drive the junkiest cars because they get tired of working on cars.

  1. Chefs love to cook. It is not like other jobs where you go just to earn money. It is something you love to do. Therefore you love to cook for others at home as well.

  2. Having been an executive chef for nearly 30 years, I rarely cook anything complex at home. That's the last thing I want to do after cooking for 12 plus hours. Some chefs, however, come home to find no dinner on the table and don't have a choice!

  3. I  am  a  retired  chef  and  I  try  not  to  cook  for  anyone  but  myself  anymore.  I  got  into  cooking  cause  I  enjoyed  it,  thinking  everyone  would  like  the  foods  I  cook  as  much  as  I  do  (and  my  brothers,  my  Mom).  What  a  dissappointment!!!  Everyone  came  to  me  saying,  "I  don't  want  this  'n  that,  etc.  etc.  Ppl.  have  the  nerve  to  phone  you  and  demand  (not  request)  that  you  cook  a  dish  for  them;  drive   across  town  and  bring  it  over,  blah,  blah,  blah.  Everyone  has  their  own  tastes,  'n  dislikes  and  often  it  is  not  the  same  as  yours.  So  now,  I  cook  for  only  myself  or  for  my  immeadiate  family,  and  to  heck  with  the  whiners.  I  used  to  give  out  recipes  and  when  ppl.  accused  me  of  not  listing  all  the  ingredients,  you  must  have  left  out  something,  cause  mine  didn't  turn  out  like  yours,  then  I  stopped  giving  out  recipes  too.  I  can't  believe  how  ungrateful  ppl.  can  be.  Tsk....

Pp.  will  have  much  more  respect  for  you  if  you  just  cook  your  own  special  favorites  and  not  cater  to  a  single  persons  whims,  put  the  food  on  the  table  and  say...  "Dinner  is  served!  If  you  don't  like  what  we  have,  then  get  on  your  pirvate  jet  and  fly  over  to  Dubai  and  make  a  reservation  at  Buri  Al  Arab  Luxerious  Exotic Resort,  (costs  $2,000.00  a  night)  and  place  an  order  for  your  meal  there.  Tsk...
